Santa Claus is coming to town

We had just gotten our daughter ready for bed and we were teaching her a little about the spirit of giving at Christmas. We had decided to watch the little drummer boy to help her understand a little as she's three and only just learning. As I came back into the living room from checking on the twins, I notice outside my front window is a beautiful float with Christmas lights and music playing, and three guesses who is sitting inside.

Now Eileen hasn't been much of a Santa kid just yet, largely due to the pandemic. The only time she visited with Santa she was two months old and fast asleep. Not that it bothers her--ask her about Jesus-- she knows it's his birthday and asks if we're making him a cake lol.

Last evening was the first time I really saw that sparkle of some Christmas magic in her little eyes. The lovely people from Merittville Speedway organized a float and drove around our neighborhood--something I've only read about in the past, businesses giving turkeys or gifts during the holidays, driving around to spread Christmas cheer. It was straight out of a movie. Eileen raced to the window, full of excitement, straight outside we went. Jesse hoisted her up on his shoulders, in her pjs and housecoat--ran her outside to see Santa from the corner of our front lawn. One of Santas elves shouted, "how old is she!?" And Jesse replied, within moments a little elf was running over with a beautifully wrapped gift for our little girl, now shaking with the cold and the thrill of seeing Santa right outside her home.

We watched as they knocked on a few doors asking if there were any children living there, giving out as many gifts as they could up and down the street. Our daughter is so thrilled, and I can't help but catch my breath watching her excitement continue this morning over the events of last night.

What a most wonderful thing to do. Our family extends the warmest thanks and beautiful Christmas wishes to the owners of Merittville Speedway and all their helpers. You made our Christmas something so special this year, and I just know you did the same for others too. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so very much ❤️
