I Love Turquoise, no no--actually, I BELIEVE in Turquoise.
It makes me feel pretty lol! I feel vibrant, young and joyful in its gorgeous blue hue... But why? What is it about this stone that makes me feel so drawn to it? Historically and religiously its been used for centuries, even found in the Bible in some instances-- it's a mineral, a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminium... Which sounds soooo boring for something so beautiful! The color alone is associated with meanings of femininity, sophistication, calm, wisdom, serenity, wholeness, creativity, friendship, love, joy, tranquility... this list GROWS infinitely. Every internet site known to the entire jewellery world has their own definition of the stone... Historically prized not only for its colour but for its properties of spiritual grounding and emotional balance... So many meanings-- I even have my own source I prefer, a 50 year old book (whose new addition does not change much every 15 years or so when they re-issue.)
According to my Natural and Healing Gemstone Bible:
Crusaders discovered this Stone in Turkey, the country after which it is named. But turquoise has long been considered a holy Stone by American Indians, who also believed it was a magic Stone providing protection against harm. The objects discovered an ancient Egyptian and Greek tombs show that turquoise was also considered a protective Stone in antiquity. It was used to protect both horse and Rider on Long journeys. In the middle ages it was thought to give women a sense of happiness and contentment and guarantee success and power to their men. Turquoise is effective treatment for a wide range of disorders. It helps in the treatment of throat and lung infections, and it alleviates hyperpepsia and general stomach aches as well as rheumatism and gout. It cures infections, speeds recovery after illness, alleviates pain and reduces inflammation. In addition it has antispasmodic and detoxifying effects. Psychologically it relives depression, gives self confidence, promotes endurance.
A symbol of Beauty. In the middle ages it was believed that it made women virtuous and loyal.

But maybe I just feel prettiest in Turquoise? More free or Creative-- basking its bright blue colour? Maybe each piece simply holds indefinite meaning for the individual who wears them...
Jesse bought me my first piece of Turquoise at the vendor tents, Canal Days 2011. We hadn't been properly dating more than a month or two, and we went with his Dad and sisters. The sun was bright and hot, and I felt, in that moment; young, free, happy and beautiful. A pretty young girl whose boyfriend thought she would stun in this pair of earrings. Maybe that's the power of my healing gemstone. The encapsulated memory of a beautiful time.
What's your favourite stone? And what's your why? I'd love to hear.
Teresa is absolutely amazing and the jewelry pieces are beautiful! She designed my jewelry for my wedding day and the pieces were absolutely gorgeous!
